Are you the kind of person who reads the fine print? (I get it, I am!) Below I describe three steps that will guide my work with you in either program, customized depending on your particular needs and how much time we have.

Identify Preferences & Goals

  • We'll look at your work history and life circumstances to better understand your past and current situations and how they can lead you in the direction of your preferences

  • You’ll come up with a “career vision” describing your ideal job that will help you clarify your goals and what motivates you, and will serve as your compass

  • You’ll look at your strengths and values with the option to learn even more about yourself with a career assessment.

  • By prioritizing this step, we can help ensure that during the rest of the process you will be looking for jobs that align with what you want, will be good at, and will enjoy

Research & Connect

  • You’ll articulate your story: the way you frame and describe your experience, strengths, unique qualities, interests, motivations, the value and contribution you bring to employers. This will help you connect during networking, job applications, and job interviews

  • You’ll investigate possible jobs or career paths and organizations through:

    • online research

    • connecting with people for advice and relationship building

    • when possible, testing your ideas by doing or observing parts of the jobs you’re interested in to see if you really like them.

This will make sure that the jobs that seem to match what you want really do, and that you can effectively communicate what you bring to the table.

Prepare Materials & Apply

  • We’ll refine your application materials to make sure you’re ready to present yourself in your best light.

  • You’ll begin applying to opportunities — both posted jobs and more proactive outreach.

  • We’ll prepare for interviewing and make sure you’re ready to negotiate an offer.

  • These steps will make you a stronger candidate, and by consistently comparing job possibilities to your strenghts, values and career vision, you’ll be ready to accept a job that is meaningful for you.

My Approach to Coaching

Different coaches do things differently and mean different things by “coach”. So I’d like to share a bit about how I work with clients:

  • I combine coaching and advising to offer comprehensive support

  • “Pure” coaching often assumes that the client has all the answers and the coach’s job is to help draw those out of you, without offering their opinion at all

  • But I also use concrete tools and strategies and advice — I have expertise and I don’t want to keep it from you!

    • So I will do both

    • I help you with your job search strategy, help you clarify what you’re looking for, and help you submit higher-quality applications

    • But I also help with squishier coach things, such as addressing any concerns, frustrations, or obstacles you encounter along the way and helping you feel more confident in your goals and decisions

  • This hybrid approach allows me to help with all aspects of your job search in a holistic and effective way
